The Open University

The Open University, the UK’s largest academic institution, was suffering from some tired, outdated websites in the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. They needed a fresher look, increased accessibility, and more focus on the University’s research projects, especially with the hard deadline of an upcoming Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment. The University approached Iain and his team for the job.
Matthew Duncanson-Hunter, based in the STEM Faculty, was keen to work with a company that would be responsive to his suggestions and ideas (as well as the ideas of his colleagues) in order to produce websites that were the best fit for them. “Working on websites that represents so many brilliant academics is challenging,” Matthew admitted. “For us, there were fifty-eight new ideas before breakfast. But Prominent Media was incredibly responsive, and Mani (web developer) has been brilliant to work with.”
“It was nice to work with a small firm – to build relationships with the team members. It gave us that added confidence that the work would be done to the best of everyone’s ability, in a timely fashion.”

Initially, Prominent Media was brought in to design only one of the STEM Faculty’s six school sites. However, after their efficient, quality work was completed on the first, it made sense for the design of the five remaining sites to fall to Prominent Media as well. Matthew and his team were consistently impressed by the clever, imaginative designs put forth by Mani – and the innovative ways he implemented them. The experience of working with Prominent Media, Matthew said, was, “easy and enjoyable.”
